Hurley to seek proposals for communications specialist - by Daily Freeman

The Town Board has agreed to request proposals to fill a public information officer’s job that was previously believed to have been covered under Civil Service Law.

The call for a “communications specialist” was made during a meeting Thursday, Jan. 4. Supervisor Michael Boms said the town was told that state Civil Service representatives could not find a record of the town getting authorization to establish the position.

“The public information officer, which (exists) now, is not in compliance,” he said. “That does not exist in Civil Service at all and that position has to be terminated almost immediately.”
