Trees, shrubs planted along Hurley Rail Trail
Project cover a distance of about 1 mile, starting at Russell Road
New trees and shrubs were planted along the along Hurley Rail Trail (O&W Trail) on Friday, March 31, and Monday, April 3, 2023.
The goal of the plantings is to improve the trail’s natural beauty and appeal, and provide additional habitats for birds, insects and other wildlife.
Among the new plantings are shagbark hickory, black chokeberry, gray dogwood, red twig dogwood, American hazelnut, bottlebrush buckeye, and pussy willow.
The project was overseen by the New York State Department of Transportation.
The plantings cover a stretch of nearly a mile along the trail, starting at the Russell Road parking lot and heading south.
