Hurley residents want pedestrian safety considered for Zandhoek Road and Main Street - Daily Freeman

Most of the concerns were about conditions on Zandhoek Road, which connects Lucas Avenue to Main Street. Residents pointed out that on one curve just north of Lucas Avenue, there is an embankment on one side and a ledge on the other so that people walking may feel they are either being squeezed against a wall or pushed down a hill. Those circumstances vary along the entire mile-long route.

Among the most optically challenging sections is the part alongside the Hurley Cemetery. On Nov. 24, an 11-year-old boy with a scooter was struck by a car.
