Hurley Town Board hires consultants for short-term rental enforcement

The Town Board has approved a $10,647.19 contract with consulting firm Granicus to handle track short-term rentals and assist with the enforcement of regulations.

Supervisor Melinda McKnight said the funding was put in the upcoming 2023 budget as a result of complaints that inundated officials during the summer.

“A piece of it is a 24-hour hotline on the weekend and law enforcement would be notified if it’s a noise thing,” she said. “Also, the Building Department can create letters and they can upload them into the software. It will also help identify (unregistered) short-term rentals because it does a sweep of all the short-term rental sites.”

In promotional material, Granicus representatives described the company’s hotline as a way for neighbors to “report, substantiate and resolve non-emergency STR incidents” with notes saved in a database “so serial offenders can be held accountable.”
