The Town of Hurley is seeking a part-time custodian and groundskeeper to maintain buildings and grounds, including the Town Hall, Old Library, Town Park, Highway Garage, and Transfer Station/Recycling Center.

The position is part-time (30 hours per week), primarily during daytime hours, is paid weekly, and offers part-time benefits. The pay is $16-$18/hour (depending on experience), and there is paid time off and paid holidays.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Facility maintenance, including but not limited to: cleaning offices, kitchen, restrooms and floors; trash and recycling removal; keeping grounds free from litter; spring/fall clean-up; and special projects as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

* Must have previous commercial experience
* Must be at least 18 years old
* Must be able to pass a physical
* Must have a valid, clean driver's license and reliable transportation

CUSTODIAN/GROUNDSKEEPER

Reports to: Supervisor or designee
Hours: Flexible; 30 per week
Pay rate: $16-$18/hour

The Custodian/Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining Town facilities, alerting the Supervisor or designee to any issues that arise and may involve coordinating with approved vendors to perform more complicated repairs. Must have a working knowledge of buildings, building cleaning practices, ability to understand and follow instructions, ability to get along well with others, willingness to perform routine cleaning, thoroughness, dependability, physical condition commensurate to the demands of the position.

Responsibilities:

1) Town Hall
a. Keep the building clean including kitchen, bathrooms, offices (vacuum, mop, dust, scrub toilets and sinks, refill toilet paper/paper towels/hand soap)
b. Perform minor building repairs
c. Assist with receiving deliveries as necessary
d. Assist with setting up/breaking down meeting room
e. Remove garbage and recycling to the Transfer Station/Recycling Center
f. Replace lightbulbs
g. Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as on leaky faucets
h. Ensure the outside of the building is free from litter, debris, cobwebs
i. Report any issues related to the building to the Supervisor
j. Assist with other duties as assigned

2) Town Park
a. Ensure the park is locked and unlocked daily
b. Maintain the kitchen and bathrooms
c. Ensure the pavilion is free from debris, broken glass, etc.
d. Replace lightbulbs
e. Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as on leaky faucets
f. Perform other duties as assigned

3) Highway Garage
a. Clean the bathrooms, staff lunchroom and kitchen area
b. Ensure the grounds are free of litter
c. Transport garbage/recycling to the Transfer Station/Recycling Center
d. Replace lightbulbs
e. Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as on leaky faucets
f. Perform other duties as assigned

4) Transfer Station
a. Clean the bathroom and office
b. Ensure the area outside the Transfer Station is free from litter
c. Assist with other duties, as assigned.

Also:
*Order and/or secure necessary supplies in compliance with the Town of Hurley Environmentally Preferable Procurement Policy in consultation with the Supervisor or Supervisor’s Assistant.
* Assist at times with special events.
