Hurley told using councilman as free labor is asking for trouble - by the Daily Freeman
A candidate for Town Board warned that the use of her opponent, Councilman Peter Humphries, as free labor seems like a bad idea that doesn’t have the same liability protection available by using a paid employee.
The volunteer work as well as the use of a town-owned vehicle could create problems in the event of an accident or if work is done improperly, said Diana Cline during a meeting Tuesday. Cline is a candidate running in opposition to Humphries for a four-year board seat.
“It’s a really really bad thing to have people working for free,” she said. “If you’re not getting paid, then there’s no liability insurance.”
